Good practice

The best care and treatment of people with mental illness, learning disability, dementia and related conditions is not always straight forward. Every individual and every situation is different.

We work with professionals, people who receive care and treatment, and carers to produce guidance on the best practice in tricky areas of mental health and incapacity law.

All of our guidance is based on real experience and provides practical advice on putting the principles of mental health law into practice.

Notifying the Commission

We are often asked about what issues and incidents should be reported to the Mental Welfare Commission.

Guidance for staff in NHS, local authority, or independent sector services.
