Employee benefits

Employee benefits are non-cash provisions within the pay and benefits package, although they do have a financial value or cost for employers (e.g. paid holidays and pensions).

Annual leave

The annual leave entitlement for full-time posts is 25 days per year, rising to 30 days after 10 years relevant service (other NHS and local government service count towards this). Annual leave for part-time time is calculated on a pro-rata basis.

General/public holidays

Staff members are entitled to a total of 11.5 public and privilege holidays per year (pro-rata for part-time staff).

All staff members are automatically enrolled in the NHS pension scheme. The NHS pension scheme continues to be one of the most comprehensive and generous schemes within the UK. Staff members are free to opt out at any time.

The Commission gives its employees the opportunity of a flexible working hours arrangement, as part of the Flexi-Time scheme (where applicable, i.e office based staff and subject to certain conditions).

Other benefits

Employees are also entitled to apply for other benefits, such as Flexible Working, Special Leave, Career Breaks and Supported Learning.

Employee savings

The Commission participates in an employee savings scheme which allows staff to save money in a variety of ways:

  • Discounted shopping vouchers or gift cards
  • Cashback, save while you shop online
  • Special offers at hundreds of retailers

The scheme includes a number of major retailers, for example, Boots, Asda and Sainsburys.

This scheme allows employees to borrow up to £1,000 to pay for a bike through the Cycle2Work scheme. The loan repayment is automatically taken from your monthly salary.
