Spreading the word

If you are thinking about organising an event, workshop or training day that aims to support the development of principles based care and treatment, get in touch. We might be able to help and can certainly post the details here and include details of it in our e-mail bulletin.

A publication that captures all the key points from the day as well as an evaluation report will be published here by the end of April.

Principles Mean Progress

The Principles into Practice Network held it's first ever conference on 13th March 2007.

Over 200 people attended the conference which provided a lively opportunity for service providers, service users and carers to come together and look at how to put principles of mental health law into practice.

Key note speeches from Jamie Malcolm, Mental Welfare Commission for Scotland; Trish Burnett, Scottish Association for Mental Health; Hilary Patrick, Edinburgh Law School; and Fran Silvestri, International Initiative for Mental Health Leaderhip.

Workshop leaders from key services across Scotland provided thought provoking sessions covering a broad range of topics and issues including:
Principles_and_advocacy
Principles_and_other_voices - involving named persons and supporting carers
Principles_and_participation - working with advance statements
Principles_and_recovery - working with the principles to promote recovery
Principles_and_the_mental_health_delivery_plan - linking the principles to mental health service planning and delivery.
Principles_and_workforce_development - developing the culture and skills in services to support principles based practice.

Theatre Nemo an award winning service-user led drama group, gave a powerful performance that made sure the after lunch slot was far from sleepy.
