Working with us
People who work at the Commission play a vital role in promoting the rights and welfare of some of Scotland's most vulnerable people. It's challenging and rewarding work that relies on good communication skills and the ability to work well as a part of a team.
We are an Investors in People employer. We also have 'two ticks' accreditation - which means we are committed to employing disabled people and will interview all applicants with a disability who meet the minimum criteria for a job vacancy and consider them on their abilities.

How to become a DMP/Second Opinion Doctor for the MWC
The Mental Welfare Commission has statutory responsibilities in relation to DMPs (Designated Medical Practitioners) under the Mental Health (Care & Treatment) (Scotland) Act 2003 part 16 and for second opinion doctors under the Adults with Incapacity (Scotland) Act 2000 part 5.
Induction training for both these roles is undertaken by the Mental Welfare Commission. Half day seminars are held annually in the spring and later in the year if there are sufficient applicants. Psychiatrists who wish to apply for these roles should have full GMC registration, possess MRCPsych or an equivalent qualification and have experience of a NHS consultant level post for at least three years. You should also be on the local NHS list of approved medical practitioners at the time of appointment.
Further details about the role and how to apply can be obtained by contacting enquiries@mwcscot.org.uk or telephoning Dr Mary Stewart, Commission Consultant Psychiatrist or Sarah Donaldson, Administration Assistant at the Commission, 0131 313 8777. We would like to hear from any interested consultant but particularly need to recruit from CAMHS specialists and those who are able to undertake regular visits in Grampian and Highland regions.
